Thank you for supporting us!
The word "tithe" is based on the number ten in Hebrew, and means to give a tenth part.
“Honor the Lord by giving him the first part of all your income.” -Proverbs 3:9-10.
To tithe isn't just giving or making offerings to God, Psalm 24:1 says it's giving back what was His to begin with. It gives us an opportunity to give thanks and show God we trust in Him. Tithes are given to God from our increase for our increase. God uses the tithe as an investment where everyone involved receives benefit from the offering, and it helps us do our most important work of spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ!
The benefits of tithing can be seen in everything we do from our mission trips, to our local outreach programs, and in our youth programs and small study groups. Tithing helps to not only support the most basic necessities of the church but it also provides for new learning materials and supportive resources. In other words, tithing ensures that all of our needs are met.
Tithing is a principle that is taught throughout the entire Bible. One of the earliest examples of tithing can be found in Genesis 4:3-5, when Cain and Abel bring their offerings to the Lord. There are of course many references to tithing in the Bible, the following are just a few:
“A tenth of all you produce is the Lord’s.” | Leviticus 27:30 |
“Yes, you should tithe, and you shouldn’t leave the more important things undone either.” | Matthew 23:23 |
“The purpose of tithing is to teach you to always put God in first place in your life.” | Deuteronomy 14:23 |
“Always remember that it is the Lord your God who gives you the ability to produce wealth.” | Deuteronomy 8:18 |
“Each of you should bring a gift in proportion to the way the Lord your God has blessed you.” | Deuteronomy 16:17 |
“Bring your whole tithe to My storehouse. Test me in this” says the Lord, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you won’t have room enough for it!" | Malachi 3:10 |
“And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others." | 2 Corinthians 9:8 |
